Nothing important

For those of you wondering where I am (and why I'm not addressing the pertinent issues of the day in my usual stunning manner), I am currently without consistent internet access. This will hopefully change in a day or two. In all likelihood, this will be my last week in Utah.

In the meantime, let's all wish Utah a happy birthday! Took me long enough to figure out why everyone was off today and going to parades.

At what point did my blog become a repository for illiterate idiots?

I may have to reconsider my anti-censorship policy.

Ian,

As someone who is supposed to be open-minded and tolerant, I am shocked and saddened by your above comment.

Whether you agree with him/her or not, I believe the first comment is rather clear. The comment seems to indicate that, surprisingly, a world war may be developing, and also it evokes a sentiment that liberals hate the United States. The boldness may indicate a forceful, emotional delivery, or perhaps it was unintentional.

In only one line, I believe the commentor captured passion...emotion...resolve. Your ad hominem remark was completely inappropriate, and beginning to censor your blog would seem to be a disproportionate response.

You definitely have been getting more than your fair share of trolls lately.

I had to delete my first comment in 13 months yesterday as the language was just horrible and completely uncalled for.

I'm trying so hard to not have to approve comments before they post, but if that happens to often, I'll have to b/c I will not take a chance my little niece will read that junk.

I've had problems with trolls also.

You have my complete sympathy.

If there is anything I can do for you, please let me know. Even if you just need someone to talk to, or a shoulder to cry upon during this difficult time.

May God's love shine upon you like the light of a thousand big suns.

I don't know if any of the three above anonymous people are the same, but I doubt it. It's nice to know who I'm talking to, especially if you grant me good wishes.

I would never censor my blog out of principle. However, I have always had a policy of discretion on comments that clearly aren't meant to convey a point (e.g., illiterate trolls). I've been getting way too many of those lately, with very little in the way of equivalent thoughful comments (though Cajun Tiger's doing as much as he can).

If anybody wants to talk World War, that's all good. However, the first anonymous response is not the way to do it. Let's keep it smart here.
